What is GERD? |

It may seem like spitting up or indigestion. Or it could be reflux. Reflux is common in infants and could lead to complications known as GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease). Common signs of GERD include frequent hiccups, abdominal pain, and difficulty feeding, among other symptoms. As a parent, it's important to recognize the symptoms of GERD or what is sometimes referred to in adults as acid reflux disease and then discuss them with your child's doctor. Recurrent spitting up and/or vomiting, common GER (gastroesophageal reflux) symptoms in infants, occur in as many as 50% of newborns and up to 67% of 4-month-old infants.
